AGRIUM EXPANSION - CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING WORKS FOR LOADING POCKET TRUSS, VANSCOY, SK, CANADA
(Completed as a Design Engineer while working with Allnorth Consultants)
This project consisted of an expansion to Agrium’s Vanscoy potash plant from the current sustainable production rate of 1.8 million tonnes per year to 2.8 million tonnes per year at a cost of approximately $1.9 billion dollars.
The scope of our work included construction engineering feasibility and design works for modifications to the mine’s underground loading pocket. This particular part of the project involved the temporary support of the existing loading pocket truss while still in use to install the hitch beams for the new structure. This structure weighed approximately 500 tonnes when the bins were full with potash.
While designing the modifications to the truss, it was also designed for sequenced removal which involved cutting of the upper sections of the truss so that the full 90 foot section could be removed in one piece.
AGRIUM EXPANSION – DESIGNED LIFT PLANS & MONORAILS AT VANSCOY, SK, CANADA
(Completed as a Design Engineer while working with Allnorth Consultants)
The scope of our work again involved construction engineering feasibility and design works for lifting long heavy sections weighing up to 15 tonnes and measuring up to 2.5m high down shaft to potash level.
We also designed and inspected lifting structures for use during the construction works such as monorails with a lifting capacity of 36.5 tons.
STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY PROGRAM, POTASH CROP, ALLAN MINE, SK, CANADA
(Completed as a Design Engineer while working with Allnorth Consultants)
PCS Potash Allan retained Allnorth to implement a structural integrity program to ensure the safety and integrity of major structural fixed assets, structures, buildings and storage facilities in a fit for purpose and safe working condition in accordance with PCS Guidelines and current regulations.
This project scope essentially consisted of field inspections on the various structures within the Allan mine site and subsequent reporting and remedial works design recommendations on various concrete, steel and timber structures. All the reporting information was entered into a customised database created by Allnorth for this purpose.
“We are living in an era of change. Alteration of structures for different uses and extensions to existing buildings are a commonplace. In each of these cases measured and structural surveys are essential. ”
